Feasibility Study Details:

Phase 1 & Phase 2b  of the project is now complete:
The objective of the feasibility study is/was to look at the viability of providing a state of the art sports facility for Tullow on the site of the existing tennis grounds. The project objectives are to create a unique quality community based sports facility with Tennis as the anchor sport while providing the local and wider community with a broad range of services and facilities that are lacking in Tullow today.

The objectives of the project are to provide much needed high quality sports and recreation facilities for the town of Tullow and it’s environs. The town of Tullow has a population of approx. 2600.  There are a further 600 in the immediate environs. The town is situated only  14km east of Carlow town.   In terms of a sports facility in Ireland a 30 minutes drive is common to go to use a facility and thus the towns Carlow , Bunclody, Hacketstown etc would be well within the catchment area. No other town in the county of Carlow would have a similar facility or combination of facilities. It is not to say that the facility is not for the “town of Tullow” but it is important  to create appropriate critical mass so that it’s reach and effect is extended. That is why as a Tennis facility it would become the major center in South Leinster.

Initial Discussion Project Brief.

  • cv-logo-text-black26 outdoor tennis courts. All courts to be individually fenced or have movable netting.
  • 3 tennis courts together could possibly double as hockey and/or 5 aside soccer pitch. (To be considered)
  • Floodlighting 800Lux.
  • 2 indoor courts to cater for : Indoor soccer, badminton, basketball, volleyball etc.
  • Gym over looking main hall.
  • Small Meeting room. 22 sq. m.
  • Dressing rooms -both Men & Women.
  • Sports showers and Toilets.
  • Public Toilets.
  • Small Kitchen with serving area
  • Tea Room and Coffee shop. (Can be combined with Bar)
  • Club Bar.(Small) with TV area. (Serving bar must be able to be closed up during day)
  • Tournament office and admin. 14 sq. m.
  • External Children’s Playground
  • Store room.
  • Presentation & prize giving room. (can be combined with Tea room depending on layout)
  • Viewing area from first floor to indoor courts.
  • Viewing area for outdoor courts from main building. (Preferably from first floor level where indoor courts can also be viewed)

  • Space for Table-tennis.
  • Tennis equipment store.
  • Other sports equipment store.
  • Geothermal heating.
  • Solar Water heating.
  • One or more wind turbines.
